Project overview

This upgrade transformed a mid-size strawberry operation into a more resilient, high-yield field system. TerraRoot partnered with the grower to redesign irrigation layout, introduce protective mulch rows, and establish soil health baselines — turning a patchy harvest cycle into a consistent, certified organic production line.

The challenge

Uneven moisture across rows led to blossom-end rot and inconsistent berry sizing. Compacted pathways restricted root spread, while overhead watering wasted resources and increased fungal pressure. The farm needed a precision approach that preserved organic certification while boosting output per hectare.

Our approach

We mapped the field into irrigation zones and installed a drip system calibrated to soil moisture sensors. Biodegradable mulch rows were laid between plant lines to regulate temperature, suppress weeds, and retain water. A lightweight soil monitoring dashboard tracks organic matter, compaction, and moisture — giving the team actionable data before each harvest window.

Results

Within the first season, the farm saw a measurable lift in marketable yield and a 30% reduction in water use compared to the previous overhead setup. Post-harvest loss dropped as berries arrived at packing with more uniform size and shelf life. The field now serves as a reference site for regenerative strawberry production across the region.
